biography
Saint Stanislaus (1030-1079), Bishop of Krakow, courageously rebuked King Boleslaus II for his cruelty and immorality and was slain by the king while celebrating Mass. A patron of Poland, his martyrdom for the moral law and the freedom of the Church made him a national symbol of conscience before power.
