biography
Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein, 1891-1942), a Jewish philosopher who converted to Catholicism and became a Discalced Carmelite nun, was killed at Auschwitz. Canonized in 1998, she is a co-patroness of Europe and a witness against the horrors of the twentieth century.
