Saints Cosmas and Damian (died c. 287) were twin brothers and physicians in Syria who treated the sick without charge, drawing many to Christ by their charity, and were martyred under Diocletian. Honored since antiquity and named in the Roman Canon of the Mass, they are the patrons of doctors and pharmacists.
