Apparition
Apparitions of Our Lady of the Rosary of San Nicolás
Church-approved Marian apparition · San Nicolás de los Arroyos, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, 1983
From September 1983 Gladys Quiroga de Motta, a housewife of San Nicolás de los Arroyos, reported apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary holding the Child and a rosary, asking that a forgotten image of Our Lady of the Rosary be restored to honour and a sanctuary built by the river Paraná. On 22 May 2016 Bishop Héctor Cardelli declared the events and revelations up to 1990 to be of supernatural origin and worthy of belief.
Background
The image Gladys described was found stored away in the tower of the local cathedral, and the diocesan sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rosary of San Nicolás was built on the site indicated. Successive bishops permitted the publication of the messages with an imprimatur before the 2016 declaration; the bishop at the same time determined that any continuing communications would remain private. Pilgrims come in large numbers each 25 September. The declaration is that of the local ordinary and binds no one to belief.
